The Left’s COVID-19 Criticisms Defy Reason

Democrats have been highly critical of the federal government’s pandemic response. However, the left’s constant criticisms have been contradictory and unproductive.

In the newest episode of progressive outrage, the left is decrying President Trump’s decision to issue an executive order temporarily suspending immigration into the country for the next 60 days. Trump says the order is intended to protect the jobs of tens of millions of unemployed Americans who have lost their jobs as a result of COVID-19. Also, he says it intends to “conserve vital medical resources for American citizens.”

It’s an election year and the decision to suspend immigration was an unquestionably tough call. Despite the risk of public backlash, President Trump put the welfare of American citizens first. However, the left pounced on the opportunity to bash the president.

The Left's Criticism

Presumed Democratic presidential nominee and former vice president Joe Biden, blasted the president over the 60-day immigration suspension. Biden accused Trump of “tweeting incendiary rhetoric about immigrants in the hopes that he can distract everyone from the core truth,” in a statement. He went on to accuse the president of moving “too slowly” to contain the virus. He also blamed the president for the country’s hardships. “We are all paying the price for it,” Biden said.

Biden has been quick to criticize the president for acting too slowly, yet he was a major critic of Trump’s early action to contain the virus. On January 31st, the president announced restrictions that barred foreign nationals who had recently traveled to China from entering the U.S. The very next day, Biden came out to criticize the decision, calling it “xenophobia” and “fear-mongering”. Biden’s emphasized that “diseases have no borders”.

Former VP Biden stuck to his guns until April 3rd when he finally admitted that he supported the travel ban. One would think that Biden would’ve have learned a lesson from this political misstep, but he is once again criticizing a move that obviously has the best interests of the country at heart.

The left’s constant criticism of the president seems to have relatively little substance. They regularly accuse Trump of slow-footing the country’s pandemic response, yet they bash every preemptive action that the president takes. The Democratic response to the White House’s containment efforts seem unabashedly disingenuous, and their real objective seems to be undermining the president above all else.

Exaggerated?

Biden doesn’t want to totally alienate conservative-leaning moderates, so his criticisms have been rather timid. However, the Democrat’s far-left doesn’t share his inclination towards reason. Earlier in the week, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) said the president’s pandemic response is “akin to war crimes.”

That’s a bold claim coming from a freshman congresswoman with next to no political clout. However, her statement exemplifies the left’s commitment to exploiting the pandemic to bash Trump and further their socialist agenda. Here, “war crimes” are defined as “grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions” traditionally. This includes hostage-taking, willful killing, and torture.

President Trump is making bold decisions to protect the country during a crisis. Meanwhile, the left does what it does best: second-guess, whine, and find reasons to be offended. Hopefully, Americans will remember the left’s thinly-veiled political exploitations of a national crisis when they get to the ballot box in November.
