On Thursday, a third NYC officer was shot this year while on duty early that day.

According to authorities, a narcotics detective was hit by a non-fatal but likely “career-ending” gunshot wound to his leg while he was executing a warrant that was part of a long-term drug-related probe in Staten Island.

The said detective, who has been a part of the NYPD for a decade, also experienced complications and had undergone surgery at the Staten Island University Hospital, as per authorities.

They did not reveal his identity, but according to the police he had been awarded numerous medals and commendations. Additionally, the man has never fired his weapon before while on duty.

Before this, two other police shootings have taken place in Harlem and the Bronx, as per NYPC COmmissioner Keechant Sewell.

“Every single day, the men and women of the NYPD put themselves in harm's way, and they do it unwaveringly. We stand here at a hospital once again, extremely fortunate that our detective, New York City's detective, is going to recover after being shot,” Sewell said during a press conference. “Three officers shot in 20 days. We're grateful that they're all recovering, and we're mindful that this morning's shooting continues to underscore how New York's finest put everything on the line to do the job we ask them to do,” he added.
