Top Republicans Support Trump’s Pursuit of Challenging the 2020 Presidential Election
Top Republican officials continuously support President Trump as he challenges the 2020 presidential election through recounts and voter fraud allegations.
Biden may have been projected to win key swing states, but the results haven’t been certified. Republicans such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., “are defending Trump’s right to pursue all legal avenues,” Fox News reported.
“If any major irregularities occurred this time of a magnitude that would affect the outcome, then every single American should want them to be brought to light,” McConnell said on Monday. “If the Democrats feel confident that they have not occurred, they should have no reason to fear any extra scrutiny. We have the tools and institutions we need to address any concerns.”
The Washington Post reported that McConnell said that Trump is “100 percent within his right” to pursue recounts and litigation. However, Trump has not produced evidence of widespread voter fraud during the recent presidential election.
Vice President Mike Pence gave a reassuring statement at a meeting in the ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Fox News reported that according to an administration official who was in the room, Pence walked into a standing ovation.
“Told @VP Team Today, ‘it ain’t over til it’s over..and this AIN’T over!’” Pence tweeted on Monday. “@realDonaldTrump has never stopped fighting for us and we’re gonna Keep Fighting until every LEGAL vote is counted!”
On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not acknowledge Biden as the president-elect when asked when the State Department would start working with the Biden transition team.
“There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration,” Pompeo said.
