Traitor Mitt Romney Will Protect Bidens

Republicans are attempting to launch an investigation in Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine, but Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is threatening to torpedo the entire effort before it can even begin.

Romney vocally questioned the motivations behind a possible probe into Biden’s dealing in Ukraine, an issue that was at the center of a phone conversation between President Trump and the President of Ukraine that sparked an impeachment investigation. Romney told reporters that Congress shouldn’t be investigating the matter. According to the Washington Post, Romney said, “I would prefer that investigations are done by an independent, non-political body.”

Strangely enough, Romney, a former Republican presidential candidate, didn’t have the same objections when it came to the highly political impeachment investigation into President Trump. Romney broke party lines when he voted ‘yes’ on a pivotal vote that would’ve allowed Democrats to call additional witnesses to testify against Trump during the impeachment trial. Luckily for Republicans, Romney’s vote didn’t amount to anything in that instance. Republicans managed to put an end to that political circus by voting down the measure with 51-to-49. However, his dissent could have a much greater impact on the proposed Biden probe.

Next week, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will vote on a subpoena that would further the investigation into a former Ukrainian diplomat who is known to have ties with the consulting Blue Star Strategies. Investigators allege that the company hired Hunter Biden in order to receive friendly treatment from the U.S. State Department. His father, Joe Biden, was serving as Barack Obama’s vice president at the time. Republicans hope that the subpoena will allow them to investigate the matter further, but Romney is threatening to sabotage the effort. Republicans have a 6-to-8 majority on the committee, so Romney could deadlock the vote at a 7-7 tie.

Just like he did with the impeachment vote, Romney is trying to portray his dissent as a result of some kind of high-horse political morality statement. He maintains that the investigation “appears political” and “people are tired of these kinds of political investigations.” However, Romney’s newfound political defiance seems to be more personally motivated than anything else. Trump butchered Romney during their run for the Republican nomination in 2016, and it appears that the campaign left a long-lasting impression on the senator from Utah.

Whatever Romney’s reasons are, they don’t seem to align with the will of his constituents. Utah voted overwhelmingly for Trump in 2020.

Other Republican senators have a different take on the investigation into the Bidens. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) – the chairman of the committee voting on the matter – discussed the issue during a television interview this week. “Joe Biden has never adequately answered these questions,” he said, “If there is no wrongdoing, or if it’s not significant, the American people need to understand that.” Johnson said he will force a vote on the subpoena this Sunday.

There is significant evidence of highly-unethical power-brokering that occurred during Biden’s term in office. The matter seems to warrant further investigation, at the very least. Neither Romney or the Democrats that are objecting to this investigation had any qualms about pursuing a weak impeachment case against President Trump. The impeachment case was based almost entirely on political undertones, yet the Democrats continually object to any investigation into the Biden’s.

Many Democrats maintain that any investigation into the Biden’s is unethical and politically driven, but for obvious reasons, this case never got the attention it warranted during Obama’s term. Joe Biden shouldn’t get a free pass because he is currently running for president. Investigations should not be put on hold because they’re politically inconvenient for the suspects. The fact that Joe Biden is running for president makes an investigation even more urgent. Americans need answers and they’re entitled to know all the facts when they cast their votes in November.
