President Trump lauded the guilty verdict in the Harvey Weinstein rape case Tuesday, calling the disgraced Hollywood mogul a pal of Democrats including Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

Calling the decision a “huge victory for women,” Trump described Weinstein was a long time political ally of Democrats who spent lavishly to defeat him in his successful 2016 presidential campaign.

“I was just not a fan of his. .. Not a person that I liked,” Trump said at a press conference in India. ” The people that liked him were the Democrats. Michelle Obama loved him. Loved him. Hillary Clinton loved him. He gave tremendous money to the Democrats.”

Trump has been accused of sexual harassment by several women and infamously joked on “Access Hollywood” about sexual assault.

He said the Weinstein verdict would send a powerful message that sexual abuse of women will not be tolerated.

“From the standpoint of women I think it was a great thing,” he said. “It was a great victory and sends a very strong message. Very, very strong message.”

Weinstein was convicted of rape and sexual assault against two women and led off to prison in handcuffs Monday in what his foes hailed as a landmark moment for the legal system and a long-overdue reckoning for the man vilified as the biggest monster of the #MeToo era.

The 67-year-old Weinstein was convicted on two charges, and cleared on a set of more serious ones. Despite the split verdict, the decision could send him behind bars for the rest of his life. The charges carry up to 29 years in prison and Weinstein still faces more charges stemming from alleged rapes in Los Angeles.
