Trump Just Donated His 3rd-Quarter Salary to Help Fight The Opioid Crisis

The $100,000 that President Trump would be paid in the quarter was given to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health, “which is leading the fight against the national epidemic of prescription painkiller, heroin and fentanyl addiction,” as reported by Washington Times. According to the White House, the funds are allocated to continue the fight against the opioid crisis. Trump considered the crisis as a public health emergency in 2017.

In a report by Associated Press, “Trump has made tackling the misuse of opioids an administration priority” as more than 70,000 Americans died in 2017 from drug overdoses – most of which involving opioids. According to a senior administration official, “while the number of Americans who misused opioids decreased from 11.4 million in 2017 to 10.3 million in 2018, President Trump continues to lead his whole-of-government effort to turn the tide on the American opioid epidemic.”

Trump has recently been donating his salary to agencies and causes. His second quarter salary was given to the surgeon general’s office.
