Trump Posts First Facebook Post Since 2021 Ban
Former Pres. Donald Trump published his first Facebook post on Friday after having his account banned in 2021.
“I’M BACK,” he posted along with a twelve-second video clip from his election night victory speech back in 2016.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. Complicated business,” Trump says in the clip.
Trump’s account was banned on Facebook, and other big tech social media platforms, following the January 6 Capitol riots.
“I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue,” Trump’s last post before the suspension reads. “Thank you!”
After a two-year suspension, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, lifted Trump's ban from both platforms in January. Becoming involved on Facebook, according to a Trump campaign spokesman who spoke to Fox News in January, “will be an important tool for the 2024 campaign to reach voters.”
The first post on any of Trump's recently reactivated social media sites was made on Friday on Facebook.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, revoked Trump's restriction after the company was acquired, but the president has not tweeted since. The former president has been communicating with his fans instead through his Truth Social platform.
Trump was able to upload new videos to his account on Friday after YouTube restrictions were removed from his account.
“We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election,” said Youtube public policy vice president Leslie Miller to Axios. “This channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube.”
