Trump Praises Vaccine from Moderna: “These Great Discoveries, Which Will End the China Plague, All Took Place on My Watch!”
President Trump has commended the coronavirus vaccine from Massachusetts-based biotech company Moderna.
On Monday, the company announced that the vaccine is 94.5% effective. This is according to interim analysis from a late-stage clinical trial, as reported by Fox News.
According to Fox News, this announcement came a week after Pfizer and BioNTech said their vaccine tops 90% effectiveness.
“Another Vaccine just announced. This time by Moderna, 95% effective. For those great ‘historians’, please remember that these great discoveries, which will end the China Plague, all took place on my watch!” the president tweeted.
Also on Monday, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on “Fox & Friends” praised Moderna's vaccine as part of “President Trump's vision.”
“More good news today from #OperationWarpSpeed: The Moderna/NIH vaccine candidate is now the second vaccine to show the potential for very high efficacy in Phase 3 trials,” Azar tweeted. He then said this is a “stunning result of President Trump's leadership.”
Fox News also explained that the president launched Operation Warp Speed. It took place “as a multiagency partnership between the federal government and private drugmakers to produce and distribute effective vaccines and therapeutics,” the report then said. Warp Speed has put around $2 billion to support the Moderna vaccine, Azar also mentioned.
“The Moderna/ NIH vaccine is the 2nd candidate in a week to show strong efficacy in Phase 3 trials!” Ivanka Trump tweeted. “Congratulations Moderna, @realDonaldTrump, the #OperationWarpSpeed team and all that made this historic breakthrough possible — it will help bring an end to this terrible pandemic!” she then went on to say.
