In the most recent Premise Data Republican primary survey for 2024, former President Donald Trump is leading by double digits.

The poll asked, “Who do you think the Republican Party should nominate as the party’s candidate for president in 2024?”

With 57 percent of Republican respondents selecting Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) fell 29 points short with only 26 percent of the vote.

Vice President Mike Pence came in third with 5 percent support, well below all other contenders. With 3 percent of the vote, former U.S. ambassador to the UN followed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in fourth place. Tim Scott (two percent), former Representative Liz Cheney (two percent), and Nikki Haley (two percent) (one percent).

Three percent of the respondents selected “other.”

Republican respondents who were asked who they would prefer between Trump and DeSantis voted Trump 56 percent of the time, while only 35 percent supported DeSantis.

In a hypothetical head-to-head contest, the poll also showed Trump leading Joe Biden, 43 percent to 41 percent, but Biden leading Governor Ron DeSantis, 37 percent to 35 percent, with 27 percent still undecided.

DeSantis had a three-point lead against Biden among independent voters compared to Trump, who received 35 percent of their support to Biden's 24 percent.

The study was conducted with 2,194 Americans on February 3–6, 2022.
