Trump Warns Newsom of Possible Fed Involvement in California Homeless Crisis
California Gov. Gavin Newsom was warned of federal intervention by President Donald Trump this week about the state’s homeless crisis.
According to President Trump, Newsom has done a “really bad job” on taking care of the homeless population in California. In fact, a Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD] report, the total number of homeless people in the state in January 2018 was over 129,972.

Earlier this month, Newsom blamed the Trump administration over rising homelessness in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, saying the White House was taking no action on “Housing First,” the governor's untested approach to solving homelessness.
“They're not serious about this issue. They're playing politics with it. Expect nothing but division coming from the folks at HUD and the Trump administration,” said Newsom in a recent Fox News report.
As of January 2019, “the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported a 2.7% increase in the nation’s homeless population—which was caused “entirely” by a 16.4% increase in California’s homeless population.”
