US Military Plane Crashes in Afghanistan with 5 Onboard

An Air Force plane crashed in eastern Afghanistan on Monday. The plane reportedly had “less than five onboard.”

According to Fox News, “it was not immediately clear if there were any survivors and officials said there are no indications that the plane – an E-11A – was shot down.” The report added that the plane is the military version of the civilian Bombardier Global Express business jet. According to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, the plane crashed in the Ghazni province, which sits in the foothills of the Hindu Kush mountains.

CNN reported that an investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash, as a spokesperson for US Forces in Afghanistan said there is “no indication” the plane was downed by enemy fire. “A U.S. Bombardier E-11A crashed today in Ghazni province, Afghanistan. While the cause of crash is under investigation, there are no indications the crash was caused by enemy fire. We will provide additional information as it becomes available,” Col. Sonny Leggett tweeted.

“Taliban claims that additional aircraft have crashed are false,” he added.

Moreover, BBC reported that “Afghan authorities had initially said the crash plane belonged to state-owned airline Ariana, but the company quickly said all its planes were accounted for.
