Verizon Extends Offer to Keep Coronavirus-Impacted Customers Connected Until the End of June

Telecommunications company Verizon recently announced that it is extending its offer to keep coronavirus-impacted customers connected through June 30th.

On March 13th, the company first announced the offer. They originally said that the company would not turn off service or charge late fees for customers and small businesses. This is for those “with 50 lines or less who are unable to pay their bills due to coronavirus-related disruption,” reported Fox Business. This will last “for 60 days, or until May 13.”

“Now more than ever, we need to ensure that our customers, their families and businesses have the ability to connect to the internet,” Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg said. He said they need to do so, “even if they’re facing financial hardship from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic,”

He also said they want customers to have an internet connection. They do this so that people can continue to “learn, and carry on with their lives,” according to Vestberg. “We’re confident this joint effort will help make that happen.”

What Verizon Customers Need to Do


Using the company’s support site, customers must notify Verizon beforehand if they are unable to pay bills.

The announcement is part of the Federal Communications Commission's “Keep Americans Connected” initiative.

“I'm asking each of our business units and all of our dedicated employees to ensure we're doing everything we can to make sure our customers stay connected. I also want our company to look beyond this period, ramp up our network investment, and build and focus on using the power of 5G to make the nation's best and most reliable networks even better,” said Vestberg.

According to Verizon, despite the pandemic, there has not been any measurable increase in data usage. This remains, even though many businesses and schools now operate online. Verizon said the company is “ready should demand increase or usage patterns change significantly.”
