Washington County School Board Member Resigns After Hoping That Trump Would Die of COVID-19

A member of the Washington County School Board has resigned. This happened after she wrote that she hoped President Trump would die of COVID-19.

Jacqueline Fischer of Clear Spring, Maryland, shared posts criticizing the president on her social media last week. According to The Daily Mail, “the board said it would be accepting her resignation its public business meeting today, after the educator said the president’s death from coronavirus would be an ‘act of karma.’”

Fischer said in one post that Trump’s death would “take care of a lot of America’s problems.”

“Since he has tested positive for COVID19, maybe the country will get lucky and he will die. Wouldn’t that be an act of karma!” she then wrote.

Fischer also told local media that she regretted the posts. She then mentioned that her remarks do not reflect the Washington County School Board.

The Washington County School Board released a statement on Sunday. It also said that her views do not reflect the opinions of the organization.

“The Washington County Public Schools is aware of the comments posted on social media by a Washington County Board of Education member. These comments are from one individual member of the Board of Education and do not reflect the views, positions, or opinions of WCPS or the WCBOE,” the statement reads.

Fischer served on the board from 2002 to 2006 and in 2010, 2014, and 2018. Her current term was set to expire in 2022.
