White House Communications Director to Exit Post
The communications director under Pres. Joe Biden is quitting, as per an announcement made by the White House on Wednesday. She is the latest in a number of departures by top White House officials right before November’s midterm elections.
In a statement, the administration confirmed that Kate Bedingfield is exiting her post later this month to spend more time with her family following three years of working to lead the president’s White House and campaign communications.
“She has played a huge role in everything the president has achieved — from his second term as vice president, through the campaign, and since coming to the White House,” Ron Klain, the White House chief of Staff, stated.
“Her strategic acumen, intense devotion to the president’s agenda, and fierce work on his behalf are unmatched,” he went on to say.
This announcement comes amid several recent departures from the administration’s high-ranking officials. Some of which notably include press secretary Jen Psaki and rapid response director Mike Gwin.
Democratic Congress members have started voicing out their frustrations over the administration’s messaging strategy amid several setbacks affecting Biden's domestic agenda, which includes multiple issues like the overturning of Roe v. Wade and inflation.
Multiple lower-level aides also had their exit from the communications team in the past few weeks, effectively starting a period of upheaval within the White House, which also saw the return of Anita Dunn, senior advisor, following her absence for less than a year.
“From long before we launched the campaign, Kate Bedingfield was a fierce defender of the president and ensured that our message in 2020 and in the White House was consistent with his voice and principles,” Dunn said.
“Her leadership helped us tell the story about the fight Joe Biden is making for the working families of America. She’ll always be a core member of this family, even as she takes a little time to put her own family first,” she added.
