White House Encourages That Skills Be Prioritized Over College Degree When Hiring Employees
President Trump is said to be preparing to redirect employers on how they should hire. He says that they must prioritize skills over a university degree.
According to Fox News, Trump will “likely sign an executive order Friday, instructing the nation's largest employer, the federal government, to take a new direction in its hiring tactics.”
Ivanka Trump has recommended that the federal government re-strategize who they hire.
“We are modernizing federal hiring to find candidates with the relevant competencies and knowledge, rather than simply recruiting based on degree requirements,” she said to The Associated Press.

“We encourage employers everywhere to take a look at their hiring practices and think critically about how initiatives like these can help diversify and strengthen their workforce,” she also added.
She believes this will broaden and improve the workforce.
Fox News explains that the White House is not necessarily eliminating degree requirements. Instead, it will prioritize looking at skills, “making a degree less important.”
“Americans are eager to get to work but they need our help,” said Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. According to him, the need for apprentices and vocational training remained present even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fox News also reported that the Office of Personnel Management will be responsible for “executing the new directive in an attempt to get more Americans back into the workforce quickly.”
