Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas Reports 548 Positive COVID-19 Cases Among Employees Since June Reopening
On Thursday, Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas reported more than 500 COVID-19 cases among its employees since it reopened in June.
According to Fox Business, the company has so far conducted 15,051 COVID-19 tests on employees. They managed to do so with help from the University Medical Center, as reported in a news release.
Employees must test negative before returning to work.
“Our goal, by implementing our Surveillance Testing Program and establishing a robust in-house contact tracing effort, is to make Wynn Las Vegas the safest place our guests and employees can go outside of their own homes,” said Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox.
Groups of 700 employees undergo tests every two weeks. There have been 548 positive cases in total. Fifty-one of the positive tests occurred before the resort reopened. Reports say that three of the workers died from the virus.
CDC Gaming Reports reported that in a statement, Wynn Resorts “said it made a commitment to public transparency of its COVID-19 pandemic health and safety efforts.”
The company first revealed the results of its testing program in August. They shared the findings during its second-quarter earnings announcement, said CDC Gaming Reports. According to Maddox, he was proud of the company’s coronavirus testing program.
“Each week, I sit with and talk to the head of global health security and pandemic research and her team from Georgetown University, going through our protocols and everything we’re doing,” Maddox said.
In the company’s most recent round of testing last Friday, only one out of 285 employees tested positive.
