With millions of millennials living at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Yelp is helping parents to “re-empty the nest.”

According to a blog post by Yelp, a Pew Research Center report found that many young adults have ditched their rentals and went back to their childhood homes.

“Its analysis of Current Population Survey data found that about 52% of young Americans ages 18 to 29 are now living with at least one of their parents, 26.6 million people in total in July, compared to 47% at the same time last year,” the blog post reads.

Providing an Opportunity

The young adults’ reasons for coming back home include college closures, unemployment, and the stress of lockdowns early in the pandemic. The blog post added that Yelp is offering to help “Re-Empty the Nest” with $2,000 to cover moving costs of select recipients. This will help young adults who want to live independently again.

“Although some young adults are enjoying the many perks of living at home with family, like more time to connect with older parents or siblings, others might be itching to get back to their own space,” the blog post reads.

Yelp Trend Expert Tara Lewis told Fox Business that a number of young adults have moved back home with their parents, “but now that we’re in this for the long haul, they may be looking to get back out on their own.”

“Moving is often stressful, so we want to help those looking to ‘Re-Empty the Nest’ by covering the cost of reliable, highly-rated movers and other service pros available on Yelp who will make the transition easier,” Lewis added.

Yelp users can join the contest by sharing why they want to re-empty the nest or are ready to leave the nest, and submitting “Request a Quote (via the Yelp app) for movers, home cleaning, landscaping, plumbing or a handyman at ReEmptyTheNest.com starting October 20.”
