Seventy-one days have passed since Vice President Kamala Harris held a press conference or visited the U.S. southern border after President Joe Biden tapped her to oversee the crisis with a record influx of migrants from Central America.

Harris’ critics claim that she is thinking about her future in politics. This serves as her highest-profile job as vice president. If the crisis doesn’t end or if the situation doesn’t improve, it may hurt her chances of becoming president.

Those who back her, as well as the White Hosue, say that visiting the border isn’t necessarily her mandate. They say Harris is working on communicating with leaders from Northern Triangle countries.

However, while Kamala Harris is having political conversations happen in Washington, the border crisis isn’t becoming any better.

On Monday, agents from the Customs and Border Protection managed to rescue a woman who was wounded and being raped on the Mexican side of the border. They also helped Mexican authorities in arresting the assailant, according to Fox News.

A video showing another gut-wrenching event has also surfaced. It shows a 5-year-old boy yelling “don’t go” after he was abandoned along the southern border.

The said video was captured last Thursday night. A couple dropped the boy in El Paso, Texas, per the AFP
