Broadway League Announces Extension of COVID-19 Shutdown
The Broadway League has announced that ticket sales for Broadway performances in NYC will remain suspended until May 30, 2021.
“With nearly 97,000 workers who rely on Broadway for their livelihood and an annual economic impact of $14.8 billion to the city, our membership is committed to re-opening as soon as conditions permit us to do so. We are working tirelessly with multiple partners on sustaining the industry once we raise our curtains again,” said Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League.
According to Fox Business, the suspension is “the latest extension of an unprecedented shutdown of New York City‘s landmark theatrical industry.”
Previously, producers said shows wouldn’t resume until after January 3rd.
The announcement mentioned that “dates for each returning and new Broadway show will be announced,” he said. “This will happen as individual productions determine the performance schedules for their respective shows.”
The Broadway League will give public updates as more information becomes available.
The group advised theatergoers who have tickets for dates through May 30, 2021, to contact their point of purchase for details on refunds and exchanges.
Broadway theaters closed in March as New York became the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S.
