House Energy & Commerce Committee Announces Legislative Hearing on Superfund Provisions in CLEAN Future Act

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a fully remote legislative hearing on Thursday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) on the Superfund provisions within the Climate Leadership and Environmental Action for our Nation's (CLEAN) Future Act.

The hearing is entitled, “The CLEAN Future Act: Superfund Proposals to Advance Cleanups, Equity, and Climate Resilience.”

“Nearly 53 million Americans live within three miles of a Superfund site, exposing families across the country to toxic chemicals and preventable health risks, oftentimes without their knowledge,” Pallone and Tonko said.

“The backlog of Superfund cleanups grew to historic levels under the Trump Administration, but now it's time to tackle this growing public health crisis and ensure polluters pay for the damage they cause.

We look forward to discussing how the CLEAN Future Act would strengthen this essential program, clean up our neighborhoods, and bring long-awaited peace of mind to frontline communities.”

This hearing will be conducted remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via a live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee's website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
