Senior Adviser for Migration Leaves White House as Border Crisis Continues
President Joe Biden’s senior adviser for migration, Tyler Moran, is about to leave the White House. He is scheduled to step away from his post at the end of January even though he only took over his role in July.
According to Politico, in a statement, Susan Rice, who is Biden’s chief domestic policy adviser, said: “Tyler has been an invaluable member of our team since the transition and a tremendous asset in our effort to rebuild a fair and humane immigration system,” Biden’s chief domestic policy adviser Susan Rice told Politico in a statement.
The White House also stated that Moran never planned to stay for more than the first year, adding that she had been traveling to her post via plane since he took on her role.
However, the White House has a history of making similar statements about the person who served in this post before Moran, Amy Pope.
“Amy had always intended to join the Biden Administration for a short time with an expected departure in the mid-summer,” the White House stated at the time.
Per U.S. Customs and Border Protection Data, the number of illegal migrant encounters at the southern border increased from 189,034 in June to 213,593 in July. This rate started to go down by a bit in August and September, with numbers at 209,840 and 192,001, respectively. However, these numbers were far bigger than the ones recorded in the same time period in 2019 and 2020.
Moran leaving this post serves as another change for the current administration’s border team.
The White House has yet to announce Moran’s replacement. However, it did express confidence that six weeks is enough time to find someone who will fit the bill.
