Amnesty for Illegal Aliens Likely Not to Be Included in New Budget Reconciliation Deal

Democrats at the Senate have admitted defeat in the efforts to include amnesty for illegal aliens into a forthcoming budget reconciliation package.

Currently, Republicans and Democrats in the Senate are negotiating a reconciliation package, which is a budget that’s filibuster-proof and that can be approved just with majority support. In the midst of this, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) revealed that the amnesty would not be included in the final deal.

“Asked if immigration is at all part of reconciliation talks, [Sen. Durbin] responds with a clear and unequivocal ‘no,'” wrote Sahil Kapur of NBC on Twitter on Tuesday.

This seeming admission of defeat follows the Senate Democrats’ repeated failure last year to include amnesty into a similar package.

In June, Durbin revealed that he and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) discussed the amnesty deal. According to Tillis, those discussions are still ongoing.
