Anonymous Donor Covers $5,000 Worth of Groceries for the Elderly
An anonymous donor paid for $5,000 worth of groceries at a store in Massachusetts. The goal was to help the most vulnerable amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donation covered the purchases of shoppers from 6 to 7:30 a.m. at the Provincetown Stop and Shop. This is a time “set aside for elderly and immuno-compromised shoppers to buy their groceries,” as reported by Fox News.
Maria Fruci, manager and spokesperson for the chain, said: “The shopper was very thankful to our Provincetown team for being on the front lines and keeping our communities fed. We are grateful to have such caring customers and associates. Their commitment inspires us every day!” According to Fruci, the anonymous donor “wanted to make a meaningful contribution.”
According to store manager Melinda McCarthy, she received a call asking how many people would shop during the early shift. McCarthy said between 30 to 40 people shop at that time, and the donor offered to cover the expenses.

A report by Metro West Daily News added that McCarthy gathered her staff for a meeting earlier in the morning. There, she told them about the donor. They all felt the mood brighten as employees felt optimistic about the day ahead.
“It was super satisfying for all of us,” McCarthy said.
When talking about how the customers responded to the good deed, McCarthy said many of them felt surprised. “A lot of people didn’t understand,” McCarthy said. Some even asked, “Are you kidding me?”
According to McCarthy, one woman could not stop crying. “The woman said that she ran out of her government assistance for food and was about to use everything she had to buy the groceries,” reported Metro West Daily News.
McCarthy shared a thank-you note from a customer: “Tears of Joy and Gratitude to all!! We will do something today for someone in an effort for us to ‘pay it forward.’”
