He may not be as widely known as Muhammad Ali, but Kimbo Slice was just as important to the underground world of MMA.

The 6'2″ 234 lb heavyweight was a monster in the ring. During his professional boxing career he had 7 professional fights, all of which he won, six of those wins were done so by knockout. During his professional MMA career he had 8 professional fights, five of which he won, two he lost, and one was a non-contest. It's fair enough to say that Kimbo Slice was a tank of an opponent in and out of the ring. 

Kimbo Slice's rise to fighting glory happened through one thing, the internet. He was one of the original street fighters that would release videos on YouTube, and sooner or later his domination in the street starting getting him attention. So much so that Rolling Stones nicknamed him, “The King Of The Web Brawlers.”

Well, The King Of The Web Brawlers has finally met his match and died yesterday at a Florida hospital, at the age of 42. It has not been reported yet what the cause of death was, but Kimbo Slice had suffered a medical emergency and was rushed to Northwest Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Before his death Kimbo Slice was known as one of the biggest personalities in the MMA. He had never won a championship belt, but he drew larger crowds than anyone else in the sport. His massive punching power, not to mention his intimidating appearance, added to his popularity.

His last stint in the cage was four months ago against Dada 5000 in Houston drew the largest audience in Bellator (a MMA company that Kimbo was signed under). Kimbo Slice won by a knockout but the ruling was overturned after he tested positive for steroids.

He was scheduled to headline in London next month against Thompson.

Kimbo Slice left behind his wife and six children. Yet his son Kevin Ferguson Jr. made his dad proud by making his MMA debut in March.
