Anti-American College Students Refuse to Support Team USA
Several American college students have refused to support Team USA at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Instead, they opted to root for individual athletes.
Campus Reform spoke with University of South Florida students ahead of the 2021 Olympics’ opening ceremony last week. Some students have voiced support for American athletes who opted to protest their home country while in the international competition.
One student even said “I don’t like being an American, either,” followed by a barrage of complaints. “Why are so many people suffering because of housing?… And that is such a great example of how f****** corrupt it is here,” the student exclaimed.
Another student said “I'm not going to be rooting for any team just because it's some country that I live in. Patriotism shouldn't be that strong.”
Ophelie Jacobson, a Campus reform correspondent who interviewed the students, told “Fox & Friends” that a lot of the students she spoke to did not seem enthusiastic about the Olympics or for supporting their country.
Jacobson said she felt sad to witness her generation “lose all hope and interest” in Americans portraying excellence on the international stage.
Instead of Uniting Americans, 2021 Olympics Seem to Cause a Divide
Meanwhile, per a recent Gallup poll, the pride of American adults in being citizens of the country remains “well below” the levels that they were prior to 2017.
For this, Jacobson blames “anti-American” sentiments that are prevailed in college campuses across the U.S.
“Nowhere else in the world are our own citizens taught to hate their own country,” she said.
She then reminisced about a time when the Olympic games would unite all residents, regardless of political leanings. Given all the things that took place in the last year and a half, she sad one might think that the Games would unite Americans. Unfortunately, she said that according to these “woke” students, the games seemingly divided Americans even more.
Brian Kilmeade, the host of the show, mentioned that the said school where students were interviewed is not often regarded as a “liberal campus.
“We don't have a common enemy, so we're turning our attacks on each other. … Campuses are not a good place if you're patriotic,” the host said.
