Biden Accuses Trump of Lying to the Nation About the Severity of the Coronavirus
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden accuses President Trump of “knowingly and willingly” lying. Biden says the president was lying to the nation about the gravity of the coronavirus during the weeks before the pandemic swept the U.S.
Fox News reported that Biden, at a United Auto Workers headquarters in Warren, Mich., on Wednesday, cited reporter Bob Woodward's new book, “which claims that the president told the longtime Washington Post journalist in February that he knew the coronavirus was ‘deadly’ but went to great lengths to downplay the virus in public.”
“On the day that we hit 190,000 dead in the United States because of COVID-19, we just learned from the Washington Post columnist Bob Woodward that the president of the United States has admitted on tape in February he knew about COVID-19, that it passed through air,” Biden pointed out.
According to Woodward, Trump purposely downplayed the virus to avoid creating a panic.
“He knew how deadly it was. It was much more deadly than the flu. He knew and purposely played it down. Worse, he lied to the American people. He knowingly and willingly lied about the threat it posed to country for months,” Biden said.
Trump opposed – pointing to his early banning of flights from China, as well as how his administration handled testing and supplying ventilators and personal protective equipment to those on the front lines, reported Fox News.
“I wanted to always play it down,” Trump told Woodward on March 19th. While he declared a national emergency days earlier, he also said, “I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”
