Former Vice President Joe Biden is hoping to win the votes of seniors.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is launching a new ad blitz this week to court senior voters in “seven crucial general election battleground states,” as reported by Fox News.

According to Biden’s campaign, they will spend more than $14.5 million to run TV and digital spots in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These states are those that President Trump won four years ago. The campaign says it is also expanding the ad buy into Nevada.

Fox News also reported that the commercials target Trump over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seniors are the ones hardest hit by the virus.

“Among adults, the risk for severe illness from COVID-19 increases with age, with older adults at highest risk,” said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Commercial

The new TV commercial shows a Greenfield, Wis., resident named Jessica who shares a story about the passing of her grandmother Susana Martinez, who died from COVID-19.

“Last time I saw my grandmother, we weren’t going to be allowed in the hospital. We asked if we could video chat her and everyone could say a little something,” Jessica says in the ad. “We gathered as a family and prayed. But the fact that she was alone, it just breaks my heart.” she also states.

Jessica then added that “the president made a huge mistake in downplaying this virus. There was a lack of leadership, a lack of responsibility, and a lack of resources. I felt like our elderly have not been a priority for this administration, that they don’t matter. And I feel like my grandmother didn’t matter.”

According to the Biden campaign, the ad will target daytime television shows with high viewership among older Americans.
