Biden Orders Airstrike to Bomb Syria Again
On Sunday, President Joe Biden ordered an airstrike in Syria once more. This is the second time he has done so in his term.
The Pentagon released a statement on Sunday, announcing that Biden instructed them to perform airstrikes against two targets in Syria. He also ordered an airstrike on one site in Iraq. These come after militias have used the said areas to launch drone strikes targeting U.S. forces in the region.
Iran-backed militia groups used the said sites, according to the Pentagon. These include Kata’ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS).
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby stated that, as demonstrated by the airstrike orders in Syria, Biden will clearly act to protect American personnel in the region.
Kirby also noted that the U.S. was still in Iraq, helping defeat Islamic terrorism in the area.
He also noted that the president had intended to send a message with the latest set of airstrikes.
Kirby said that the country took “necessary, appropriate, and deliberate action” that was thought of to limit escalation risks while also sending a clear deterrent message.
Biden himself did not issue a statement regarding the matter nor did he address the airstrikes with reporters when he returned to the White House on Sunday from his trip to Camp David.
The president has also ordered airstrikes in Syria last February. That came in retaliation after militia groups backed by Iran launched rocket attacks that resulted in four American contractors and one service member suffering injuries. Furthermore, one non-American contractor was also killed, per Breitbart.
