It seems more illegal immigrant felons are trying to enter the United States. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have arrested two child sex offenders trying to get across the border in the past few days.

On Monday, CBP announced that its agents managed to pick up a group of 10 migrants in Abrams, Texas who had illegally crossed the border. Included in this group was a Salvadoran who had been arrested in Washington for raping a child. Convicted, he had received a sentence of 34 months in prison and community service.

The group he crossed the border with had one unaccompanied child, according to CBP.

In Mission, Texas, agents also arrested a 49-year-old illegal migrant, also from El Salvador. He had a previous conviction for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old in New York City. In 2014, the said illegal migrant received a sentence of one year in prison for second-degree sexual abuse.

CBP mentioned in a statement that they are processing both men accordingly. The two illegal migrants are the latest convicted sex offenders who have attempted to enter the country recently. This comes as Border officials face an overwhelming number of migrants trying to enter through the southern border.

CBP also stated that, even with the threat of COVID-19, many human smugglers still try to attempt to enter the country brazenly, without considering the lives that they are endangering, nor the health of the people in America. The Border Patrol agents at the Rio Grande Valley sector also vowed to continue protecting the country from these “criminal elements.”

In March, the agency revealed that it had arrested several convicted sex offenders trying to enter the country illegally. Some of them also come with child sex convictions,

In April, the agency revealed that, in just two days, it managed to arrest three convicted child sex offenders who have traveled with groups of illegal immigrants. One of them has a conviction for aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13 years old in Virginia.

The agency said that, in April, it had encountered over 178,000 migrants at the border. This figure includes thousands of unaccompanied minors traveling with such migrant groups.

Meanwhile, officials have estimated that over 1,000 migrants get past overwhelmed agents daily. According to some agents, as per Fox News, some of these smugglers would often use kids as distractions. By doing so, they can get adults through other areas of the border.
