Burying the Truth: Media Launches Massive Effort to Censor Hunter Biden Emails

With less than three weeks to the election, the media is working overtime to bury a blockbuster New York Post report that could hurt Joe Biden’s chances at the ballot box.

New York Post reporters published a treasure trove of compromising emails between Hunter Biden and executives of a Ukrainian energy company yesterday. However, the story was virtually invisible on most mainstream media networks. Several prominent publications ignored the story entirely. Meanwhile, others attempted to undermine the narrative with shaky claims of plausible deniability.

The story also encountered resistance on the nation’s notoriously left-leaning social media platforms. Within hours, Big Tech virtually shut the story down. According to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, an executive at Facebook called former Democratic staffer Andy Stone shortly after the story broke to inform him the company would be, as the executive phrased it, “reducing its distribution on our platform.”

Sure enough, the story was buried by Facebook’s algorithm, making it virtually impossible to find on the platform.

Twitter quickly followed suit and also restricted the story on its platform. Without any explanation, the company locked down the New York Post’s Twitter account. It also prevented the paper from sharing the story both publicly and privately. Any user who tried to share a link to the story received a message. It says, “Your tweet couldn't be sent because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful.”

Liberal Censorship?

Even the highest echelons of political power couldn’t breach the wall of liberal censorship. Twitter locked White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany out of her personal account. The website did so because she tried to share the story with her followers. “It’s not a temporary blockage,” McEnany said during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “When I log on to my Twitter account, it says I'm permanently banned. They essentially have me at gunpoint and said unless you delete this story, a news story by the New York Post, I cannot regain access to my account.”

“This was a news story with emails, pictures of the emails … even the Biden campaign does not dispute the authenticity of the emails,” McEnany added. “Meanwhile … the ayatollah of Iran [is] tweeting ‘death to Israel'. This is permitted on Twitter, but an email that is reported … by the New York Post, a credible outlet, you are not allowed share that information.”

The blatant suppression of a credible report from a respected and established newspaper is raising serious alarm amongst conservatives and First Amendment advocates. However, politicizing their platforms could cost the social media giants in the long-run. Big Tech’s behavior is prompting renewed calls to strip social media firms of their lawsuits protection under federal laws. This is because they’re acting more like publishers than open forums.

Excuses

Hours later, Twitter managed to figure out an excuse for blocking the content. The company cited its ‘Hacked Materials Policy’ to explain the censorship. “In line with our Hacked Materials Policy, as well as our approach to blocking URLs, we are taking action to block any links to or images of the material in question on Twitter,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “We don't permit the use of our services to directly distribute content obtained through hacking that contains private information, may put people in physical harm or danger, or contains trade secrets.”

Twitter’s enforcement of these rules seems to be selective at best. The company has long stood accused of favoring liberal narratives and suppressing conservative viewpoints. However, the platform’s censorship action marked an unprecedented instance of outright information suppression from a respected newspaper.

It took hours for the company to justify its decision to block the link. CEO Jack Dorsey later admitted that the firm’s communication was “not great” in regards to the decision. However, he stopped short of admitting fault.

The Emails in Question

The New York Post uncovered a cache of emails that indicated Hunter Biden brokered meetings between executives at a Ukrainian energy company where he served on the board and his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, in exchange for cash compensation. The uncovered emails also included overtures to major Chinese firms. They also contained compromising photos of Hunter Biden engaging in sexual acts and smoking crack.

Social media is using their station to influence an election, and they’re doing it right in front of America’s face. Most Americans find this type of behavior to be reprehensible. However, the liberal elitists in positions of power are unwilling to act against their left-wing allies in Silicone Valley. More than any other instance, yesterday’s events should harden Republican resolve to strip these companies of their legal protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

Some GOP lawmakers already have Big Tech in their sites. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) spoke about the recent censorship during an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Thursday morning. There, he shared an ominous message for the social media firms: “Winter is coming.”
