Campus Gun Control Makes For Easy Targets

• Two students were robbed at gunpoint on a “gun-free” campus.
• A man exited an SUV with a gun and demanded they give him their belongings.
• Two years ago a man with a gun opened fire outside the Florida State University, a man with a conceal carry permit was able to take out the shooter.

Florida State University is a gun free school, that however didn't stop two students from being robbed at gunpoint.

A few months ago, Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, the chairman of the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee eliminated campus carry. However, gun use on the campus still remains a problem. The last time a high-profile gun incident happened on campus within the last two years. On November 20th, 2014 a gunman opened fire outside the FSU library, thankfully a man who had a concealed carry permit was close enough to take out the shooter.

Now, guns are being used again. The two students who were robbed claim that it happened at one of the schools parking lots. The students told the police that a “white pickup truck or SUV,” pulled up next to them and a “male  exited from the passenger side armed with a handgun and demanded the students’ belongings.” After the students had cooperated and given over their stuff, the man drove off.

At the moment there is no description for the driver but the passenger was described as “male, black, about 19-20 years old, approximately 5’8” tall, about 150 pounds, and wearing a white t-shirt.”

In 2015 the campus changed rules to allow students, who had concealed carry permits, to keep firearms in their cars for self-defense during football games.

However, it doesn't seem that having a gun in their car protected these two students from being robbed. Clearly, gun control works in the criminals favor not the victims.
