Rev. Terrance “Big T” Hughes, a pastor from Colorado, was released from the hospital on Wednesday. This is after he spent seven weeks intermittently on a ventilator because of the coronavirus. “God answers prayers,” he said when he left the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora.

His family and friends, who were only able to reach him virtually, were waiting outside. “I think God’s in control of everything,” said his sister, Bonnie Hughes.

Hughes’ wife of almost 20 years, Rachel Hughes, said: “I was grateful he is alive, and I could touch him. I didn’t know if I could touch him, but I did.”

Fox News reported that the pastor has lung and kidney damage from the virus. He was “immediately taken from the hospital to an acute care center in an ambulance.”

His wife also contracted the virus but has fully recovered and was not hospitalized.

“Every time the phone rang, I was so scared to answer,” Rachel Hughes said about her husband’s hospitalization. “It really taught me the meaning of pushing through. I had to keep pushing through.”

Talking about the ICU team, Rachel said, “they supported us financially and spiritually; it is truly a blessing.”

According to The Denver Post, nurses, doctors, frontline health workers, friends, family, and supporters all cheered Hughes as he left the hospital.

“I’m just grateful he is alive and able to go to the next stage, which is the rehabilitation,” Rachel also said about her husband’s move to the acute care center. “Then, the next stage after that is coming home.”
