Conservative Filmmaker Predicts ‘Citizen Militias’

Dinesh D'Souza, a conservative filmmaker known for his political documentaries, has predicted a rise in armed militiamen in the United States. He cites the growing militarization of left-wing protesters as the cause of this phenomenon, predicting that conservative Americans will eventually take it upon themselves to protect their homes and communities.

‘I’m Not Advocating it; I’m Predicting it”

D’Souza sees the current violence and social tensions that plague American cities as a possible prelude to something much worse. In a phone call with Fox News, he said, “The problem is that you respond [to rioting] through the lawful authorities, which is through the police; if things escalate beyond a certain point then you call in federal assistance. If things escalate beyond that point you call in the military.”

D’Souza went on to explain why this typical response system is breaking down. He said, “Local governments and state governors are calling down the cops and licensing their own private gangs. If the cops won't protect us, then you're going to see the rise of citizen militias around the country.”

The filmmaker made clear that he was not advocating a rise in local militias. However, predicts it as the most likely outcome if the trend toward lawlessness continues.

Politics and Religion

Another major theme in the interview centered around Christianity’s evolving role in the US political system. He discussed the growing rift between Democrats and Christians, explaining that the left has grown increasingly hostile to the US’ most prominent religion.

As he told Fox News, “There are powerful attacks on religious freedom and on the churches. You see this in the double standard that the left applies when they want to shut churches down, but they don't want to shut protests down.”

D’Souza sees this double standard as a way to reduce Christians’ status in the country. “They're basically saying that churchgoers should be second-class citizens as compared to protesters. Or that one enjoys a higher form of protection than the other.”

Optimistic Conclusion

Though he painted a grim picture of the nation as rife with division and destructive political forces, D’Souza ended on a positive note.

He eschewed comparisons between today’s America and Antebellum America in the years before the Civil War.
“The circumstances are very different from 150 years ago. In no way is civil conflict inevitable. There are many other solutions. There are different ways in which groups that are very different can coexist, but all these ways are going to be tested.”

Though likely informed by his own political beliefs, D’Souza maintained a cohesive argument throughout the interview that the current strife is mostly a product of Democrats’ lurch to the left. He painted the party as hostile to religion and individualism, two historic tenants of American culture, and supported this narrative with solid evidence.

Upcoming Trump Documentary

D’Souza interview comes as the filmmaker prepares to release a new film entitled Trump Card.

The film largely reflects the themes of his Fox News interview. The documentary focuses mainly on the modern Democratic party and its biggest names, including Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. It depicts Biden as a useful fool for a growing cabal of anti-US socialists within the party. It paints Donald Trump as the only antidote to this dystopian future.
