Gov. DeSantis Strikes Against “Faucism” and Mandates
Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday criticized what he called “Faucism” in the reported sudden increase of Omicron COViD-19 cases while speaking from Oldsmar. He also promised that Florida will continue to protect the freedom of its people to make their own decisions.
The Florida governor also noted the emergence of the Omicron variant as well as the initial reaction of the market to this news. He claimed that the market was not afraid of the virus. Instead, it’s scared that governments would pursue “destructive things” as their response to the new variant.
He said, “And in Florida, we won’t let them lock you down. We won’t let them restrict you. We’re not going to let them impose mandates. We’re not going to let them close schools. We are going to protect your freedom to make your decisions,” DeSantis declared, reiterating the state’s distinction as a stronghold of freedom.
“And I have no problem if somebody is — if they’re scared of Omicron and they want to lock down or they want to isolate, that is absolutely their decision in a free society. But you don’t impose Faucism on the whole country or on the whole state. It’s wrong,” DeSantis went on to say.
The Florida governor also highlighted his state’s response and its success in handling the Delta variant last summer, including putting up dozens of facilities for treatments using. monoclonal antibodies.
