DeVos: Fumbling The Bathroom Issue And Opposing President Trump

In this article: Department Of Education: Was Betsy DeVos the Wrong Choice? I warned that Betsy DeVos was an inadequate choice. The Department of Education should be dissolved first and foremost. I also warned that conservatives should not stick their neck out to defend DeVos. Here is why:

In a recent report by the NY Times, DeVos opposed President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions on the removal of “bathroom protections” for transgendered students. She was apparently fronted with a choice given to her from President Trump: resign or support our position. She caved and eventually signed off on the order. But her spinelessness was already on display.

DeVos: Fumbling The Bathroom Issue

DeVos is reportedly a “silent supporter of LGBTQ rights”. I must applaud both Jeff Sessions and President Trump for railroading her and essentially disposing of her fecklessness.

Statement and My Response

I will address the statement by Betsy DeVos on the transgender bathroom issue. One quote at a time.

“We have a responsibility to protect every student in America and ensure that they have the freedom to learn and thrive in a safe and trusted environment. This is not merely a federal mandate, but a moral obligation no individual, school district or state can abdicate. At my direction, the Department’s Office for Civil Rights remains committed to investigating all claims of discrimination, bullying and harassment against those who are most vulnerable in our schools.”

If there is one despicable trait of a politician, it is their inability to stand on principle. If Betsy DeVos really believes that transgenders should be able to select whatever bathroom they wanted, then she should have stood up to President Trump and Jeff Sessions. Instead….she runs to make a public statement to show her support for LGBTQ rights. A backhanded comment aimed at the Trump Administration.

Furthermore, she claims to want to protect “every student in America”, yet oddly cannot connect the dots that by allowing transgendered students to go in whichever bathroom they please, she undermines 99% of the students who must be exposed to this charade.

I cannot take the pandering.

“The guidance issued by the previous administration has given rise to several legal questions. As a result, a federal court in August 2016 issued a nationwide injunction barring the Department from enforcing a portion of its application. Since that time, the Department has not enforced that part of the guidance, thus there is no immediate impact to students by rescinding this guidance.”

Her rationalization to her LGBTQ friends….

“This is an issue best solved at the state and local level. Schools, communities, and families can find – and in many cases have found – solutions that protect all students.

I have dedicated my career to advocating for and fighting on behalf of students, and as Secretary of Education, I consider protecting all students, including LGBTQ students, not only a key priority for the Department, but for every school in America.

We owe all students a commitment to ensure they have access to a learning environment that is free of discrimination, bullying and harassment.”

More fluff talk and phony rhetoric.

True Colors of DeVos

Well that didn’t take long. Betsy DeVos is not worth dying on the sword for. She is someone who may oppose a lot of the common sense measures the Trump administration is willing to take on education. The best thing to do, is abolish the entire department and DeVos’s job along with it. A job that she is unfit to hold.
