House Approves Dream Act Even As Border Crisis Rages On
The US House of Representatives voted to pass the Dream Act for undocumented migrants. Known as the American Dream and Promise Act, it’s a measure aimed at providing a pathway to citizenship. Its primary goal is to help secure citizenship for migrants who arrived in the US as children. The bill’s passage comes at a time as large numbers of migrants overwhelmed US southern border towns. Voting 228-197, nine Republicans cast a “yes” vote along with Democrats to pass the bill. Next, the bill now heads to the Senate, which won’t be as welcoming as the House.

The Dream Act
More popularly known as the Dream Act, the bill will provide opportunities for more than 2.3 million “Dreamers,” or unauthorized immigrants who arrived as minors. It will also cover beneficiaries of selected humanitarian programs. With the measure, they can complete a program to gain permanent legal status and eventually, U.S. citizenship.
An earlier version of the Dream Act passed the House during the previous Congress. However, it never saw the floor in the Senate. Now, Democrats hope to achieve full passage given they also control the Senate. However, they will need at least ten Republican Senators to support the bill in order to get the necessary votes.
Farm Workforce Modernization Act
Also on Thursday, the House also passed The Farm Workforce Modernization Act. This act helps approximately 1 million undocumented farm workers to apply for legal status. The bill received support from both Democrats and a sizable number of Republicans. In fact, it passed via a 247-174 vote, which included 30 Republicans voting in support of the measure. Representative Jared Golden (ME) is the lone Democrat who sided with the majority of Republicans who voted no.
GOP Representative Dan Newhouse (WA) defended the bill. “There simply isn’t enough interest among domestic workers to get these jobs done,” he said Thursday. The bill provides a “targeted” and “bipartisan solution” needed by farmers and ranchers. Meanwhile, Democrat sponsors say the act can impact the lives of an estimated 3.4 million people.
Don’t Ignore the Southern Border
Many Republicans took the floor Thursday to denounce the administration of President Joe Biden for mishandling the current border crisis. An overwhelming number of migrants deluged the US southern border in the hopes of entering the US. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who recently returned from a border visit, decried the administration’s shortcomings. “It is the Biden border crisis. So far, the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats aren’t providing any solutions,” he said.
Republicans argued that Biden unleashed the crisis by rolling back former President Donald’s Trump more hardline immigration policies. In particular, the White House seemed to relax on the policy of allowing unaccompanied minors to enter the US. Now, there are 9,562 unaccompanied children in custody among various Health and Human Services (HHS) facilities. An additional 4,5000 migrants are in Border Patrol custody. Once documented and processed, migrants transfer to HHS shelters.
Biden Denies the Border Situation is a Crisis
Meanwhile, the Biden administration refuses to call the situation a ‘crisis,’ preferring instead to heap blame on the previous administration. White House officials and leading Democrats in the House insist that they inherited a system unprepared for the increased number.
“Give us the time to rebuild the system that was entirely dismantled in the prior administration, and we have in fact begun to rebuild that system,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas pleaded on ABC's “Good Morning America” last Tuesday.
Next Stop: The Senate
Now that both bills head to the Senate, another uphill battle is shaping up. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (SC) recognized the challenge of excluding the current situation. Republicans can’t engage in negotiations over immigration reform without discussing border security and the administration’s handling of unaccompanied minors. “Until he regains control with policies that work, it's going to be hard to do anything on Dreamers or anything else. Legalizing anybody under these circumstances would lead to even more illegal immigration,” Graham said.

It is so unfair to the people that actually come in here legally and do everything they’re supposed to it’s a slap in the face to them and as an American this is a crisis and I’m sorry President Biden as an agenda to throw out anything that President Trump accomplished and that too is sad, At this time all we can do is pray to God to forgive our new president and vice President for putting their own agendas up first instead of following the lead of our forefathers that made America The strongest and respected Country.
There is a legal process to come into this country. And our tax dollars should not be use to shelter, feed, clothe and treat these individuals. We have citizens struggling that should come first. As an American I would noted be able to illegally enter any other country in the world and be taken care of. Americans first, then non-Americans.
why not open the northern border as well, why not? Come to the land of “everything is free”, unless you work and pay taxes to support these people.

I don’t like it because the border will continue to have children brought across with no end in site. Why give citizenship to migrant workers that come across border to work in farming. They already get permits to cross border to work in this area. Why do they now need citizenship. Because it is a stepping stone to opening borders and giving citizenship to all that cross the border. Our country is already struggling financially borrowing money endlessly from China. So now we are going to offer aid to all immigrants when our own citizens are struggling. They are already chocking out our own citizens like weeds. This is our country and we can not support the world and solve all their problems for them. It may be different if all our companies weren’t heading to China and our government wasn’t ending all our jobs in the name of climate change. We contribute very little compared to other countries that we by the way our going to fund massive amounts of money to other countries to improve their emission problems with China getting one pass after another to correct their problems which they never do. Chin is like the relative that’s always gonna do it but never gets around to it. I fear for the direction our country is headed. Everything else is more important to our government than its own US citizens. Out intelligent, forward thinking, politically correct leaders have no command sense or morals. Without command sense you don’t think for yourself. You just blindly follow with no understanding.

I have family that came here years ago and wanted to be here. They became citizens by following the law, it took some time but they did it. One was my father, he loved this country and even fought in the army. Most of these people that are crossing illegally have no intention of becoming legal, they just want to come for the benefits and freebies that those of us that work hard for a living have to pay for in higher taxes and higher cost of living.

Until they stop the uncontrolled illegal entry into the USA by people who have no means of documentation for their own identity. No one should use the excuse in today’s technology to not get a documented form of identification. Their mere presence can result in getting documented and they need to wait to be processed into the system properly. I strongly believe someone is profiting off all these undocumented individuals and that person talks falsely verbally in public as if they cared. Get real, the USA is not the dumping ground solution. Find out why the place they are fleeing from is forcing these people to leave and stop what is doing that.

If the dreamers were really wanting to be American citizens most of them have been here long enough to have done it the legal way. So I don’t think they are really that interested in becoming citizens

I believe that following our laws is the first test of a desirable citizen. Immigrants need to come in legally and apply for citizenship. I am in favor or not deporting dreamers who were brought as children many years ago, not currently, but then requiring them to go through the same applications and citizenship requirements as everybody else legally entering does.
I have travelled for many years both abroad and to Mexico. We are charged a lot of money and required paperwork; it is not waived. In Mexico there are armed guards along the roads every so often checking your permit papers and the contents of your vehicle also , to make sure you paid the taxes on what you brought in with you. Fail to do this, get caught, GO TO JAIL. And it is not as nice as our jail AT ALL!
