Facebook Features Licensed Music Videos on Platform
On Friday, Facebook announced that it will be delivering licensed music videos. This comes in collaboration with some of the biggest music companies in the U.S.
“Today, we’re adding a new way for people to come together around music by bringing official music videos to Facebook in the US,” wrote Tamara Hrivnak, Facebook's vice president of music business development and partnerships, and Vijaye Raji, Facebook's vice president of entertainment, in a blog post on July 31st.
“Starting this weekend, you’ll be able to discover, watch and share music videos from today’s top artists to up-and-coming bands and classics across various music genres on Facebook,” they then added.

Facebook’s music partners include Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. It also includes Merlin, BMG, Kobalt and “many others” in the industry.
Fox Business reported that Facebook’s recent move will likely introduce new competition to media websites. These include video streaming websites (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, Vevo) and music streaming services (e.g., Apple Music).
Global music video premieres will happen on Facebook in the coming weeks. It will include exclusive music video content from J. Balvin, Karol G, Sebastian Yatra, Alejandro Fernandez, and Calibre 50, the blog post then mentioned.
“Over time, the experience will become more personalized to your tastes based on artists you follow and videos you engage with,” Hrivnak and Raji also wrote.
