Firearm Sales Peaked During the Pandemic and Riots in Biden’s America

COVID-19 and regular violent protests and riots in big cities have fueled a gun-buying binge across the country. Additionally, the uncertainty that 2020 brought caused unprecedented firearm sales in the U.S., including a new group of gun owners among minorities and women.

The year 2020 has become the highest year for firearm sales ever since the current system for record-keeping took effect, as per USA Today. The rate of gun sales went up by 40% in 2020 as compared to the year previous to that. The FBI conducted a record of 39.695,315 background checks during that time.

This surge in buying guns managed to continue into 2021. In January, gun sales skyrocketed by 60% at 4,137,480 – the largest figure for a single month since 1998.

This gun-buying spree is not exclusive to gun enthusiasts who are stocking up to anticipate a possible executive order or legislation on gun control that would hinder their Second Amendment Rights. There are many new gun owners that have been recorded for the past year, too. As per data from the Northeastern University and from the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, around 20% of the people who bought guns last year in the U.S. were first-time owners.

According to the research, half of the new gun owners were women. Meanwhile, 20% were black and another 20% were Hispanic.
