Georgia Secretary of State: “Right Now, Georgia Remains Too Close to Call. There Will Be a Recount”

“There will be a recount in Georgia,” said Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Friday. This is after the vote totals “show a razor-thin margin” between the two candidates in the battleground state, Fox News reported.

The state has 16 electoral votes and could possibly give Biden the lift he needs to surpass 270. However, according to Raffensperger, the state is “too close to call.”

“Right now, Georgia remains too close to call,” he said. “There will be a recount.”

USA Today explained that under Georgia state law, candidates can request a recount if the margin of victory is less than 0.5%. Around 1,600 votes separate Biden and Trump on Friday morning – with Biden in the lead.

“Everything's going to have to be investigated to protect the integrity of the vote. We are literally looking at a margin of less than a large high school,” said Georgia’s voting system implementation manager Gabriel Sterling.

Sterling said the state had around 4,169 votes left to count, and a recount could take until the end of the month.

Sterling also rejected false claims that any ongoing fraud existed. “We're not seeing any widespread irregularities,” he said.
