  • The Obama administration is funding immigration groups that are rallying public sentiment against Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
  • A long-running criticism of granting legal status to illegal immigrants has been that it would serve to expand the Democratic voting base.
  • The NPNA executive director, Tara Raghuveer, told the New York Times, “People who are eligible are really worried that someone who is running for president has said hateful things,” referring to Trump.

The Obama administration is funding immigration groups that are rallying public sentiment against Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, the Daily Caller reported. These organizations include the National Partnership for New Americans, the Chicago-based Instituto del Progresso Latino, and the Los Angeles-based Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

The Blaze reported in December on the close ties the National Partnership for New Americans has with the Obama White House, as well as other Democratic campaigns. The White House formed the Networks for Integrating New Americans in April 2014, which has partnered with the National Partnership for New Americans, a group that has criticized Trump for “hateful rhetoric.”

In a recent Facebook post, the group boasted it could transform the American electorate if green card holders would naturalize and vote.

The initiative is financed by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education, according to White House Task Force on New Americans One Year Progress Report released in December.

The point of the federally funded partnership with the NPNA, along with other immigration groups, is to integrate new immigrants into the United States largely through education. However, the White House’s own description also touts success in registering new voters.

“Together, these organizations have been supporting and documenting immigrant integration models that strategically coordinate across services and providers to promote linguistic, civic, and economic integration,” the White House task force report says. It adds that the integration strategy has “increased their voter registration efforts in Network celebrations and adult school events.”

A long-running criticism of granting legal status to illegal immigrants has been that it would serve to expand the Democratic voting base.

The NPNA deputy executive director, Tara Raghuveer, previously told the New York Times, “People who are eligible are really feeling the urgency to get out there. They are worried by the prospect that someone who is running for president has said hateful things,” referring to Trump.

The other two groups, the Instituto del Progresso Latino and Asian Americans Advancing Justice, both received $250,000 in the fiscal year 2015 as part of the Networks for Integrating New Americans initiative. Earlier this month, the Chicago branch of Asian Americans Advancing Justice held an anti-Ted Cruz event.
