Indiana AG Starts Full Investigation on 5 Big Tech Companies for their Conservative Content Censorship
On Wednesday, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced that he has started an investigation into five Big Tech companies in connection to their censorship of conservative content.
The five Big Tech companies included in the investigation are Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter.
Rokita to Investigate Big Tech Companies
Rokita’s office released a statement, saying that the investigation will focus on whether these companies have “potentially harmed Indiana consumers” due to the business practices they have which are “abusive, deceptive, and/or unfair.”
Rokita also intends to look for ways on how these companies limit a person’s access to a certain type of content. Often, these platforms delete or obscure materials from a conservative point of view. This manipulation, he then says, stops the consumer “from making informed choices.”
Rokita also noted that “in a free society,” there’s not a lot of things that are more important to people than access to information. Not a lot of things are also as important to them as expressing political opinions on meaningful platforms. He added that the manipulation of content done by these companies is potentially harmful and unfair.
Apart from Big Tech companies, Rokita also plans to probe the alleged actions done by Atty. Vanita Gupta, a far-left activist nominated by the president as an associate attorney general at the Justice Department. His actions allegedly encouraged the tech companies to censor conservative content.
According to Rokita, Gupta reportedly met with executives from Facebook and Twitter. He did so to push for “more rigorous rules and enforcement,” as per Time.
Gupta, as per the Time article, made it a point to stress how important it was for social media platforms to take certain things and take them down.
