Israel Officially Declares War for First time in Five Decades
Israel for the first time in 50 years officially declared war on Syria on Saturday night after the security council of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a formal war footing.
The Times of Israel reported:
“The security cabinet voted last night to put the country officially at war, and it can carry out “significant military activities,” the Prime Minister’s Office announces.

The high-level security cabinet decision gives the declaration legal standing in keeping with Basic Law: The Government, which in its Clause 40 says that the country cannot go to war without a government decision.”
The Yom Kippur War, which took place in 1973 and saw an attack by Egypt and Syria catch Israel off guard, was the last recognized “war.” Israel has subsequently engaged in numerous conflicts, many of which are referred to as “wars” in popular culture, but the nation has not made a formal declaration of war in 50 years.
The office of the prime minister also declared that “electricity, fuel, and products” would no longer be supplied to Gaza. Netanyahu also issued a statement warning Gazan citizens to leave because Israel will soon respond.
During the Jewish festival of Shemini Atzeret, the last day of the annual High Holy Day cycle, a terrorist incident by Palestinians took place.
As of this writing, the attack, which used drones, missiles, and trucks, has resulted in over 600 fatalities and over 2,000 injuries, and Iran has already proclaimed “victory.”
