President Joe Biden promised to use the executive Office of Gun Violence Prevention to “centralize, expedite, and intensify” his administration's campaign for stricter gun laws.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been selected by Biden to lead the office, he said.

The Washington Post published a report that made it apparent that coordination in the office is expected between the “White House, the Community Justice Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety.”

On Friday, after announcing the opening of the new agency, Biden demanded the outlawing of “assault weapons,” “high capacity” magazines, and background checks for everyone. He also urged Congress to act to enact additional gun control measures, and he promised to utilize his position to “centralize, expedite, and intensify” his administration's efforts in this area.

In the summer of 2022, Biden passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act with the assistance of Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who collaborated with Democrats to pass the bill.

His ATF has implemented regulations that define partially finished firearm frames as firearms, proposed a regulation requiring the registration of AR-pistols with stabilizer braces, and most recently proposed a regulation to get the country closer to requiring universal background checks.
