The situation in Afghanistan has become direr on Monday after U.S. forces shot and killed two gunmen who fired at the crowd at Kabul’s Karzan International Airport while the evacuation has come to a halt.

Evacuation from Kabul Airport Comes to a Halt

According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. troops killed two armed men at the Kabul airport, per a U.S. official. The said men went towards U.S. troops who were there to provide security and assistance for Americans and Afghan civilians to escape the country following the Taliban takeover. Only a few details have been released about the incident between the U.S. forces and the unidentified gunmen.

On Sunday, the U.S. took over the Kabul airport so that it can manage the evacuation effort following the takeover of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The said effort, however, came to a stop when a lot of Afghan citizens flooded the airstrip in a desperate attempt to escape from the country.

The Taliban managed to take over Afghanistan in just a few days. According to a Daily Wire report, it reportedly took control of Bargam Airbase on Sunday, which is a former U.S. airbase turned over to the country’s government just last month.

Additionally, the group has allegedly released thousands of prisoners at Bagram, including al Qaeda members, the same terrorist group that was behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which prompted the U.S. takeover of Afghanistan back in 2001. The said Airbase was being controlled by the U.S. military for two decades before turning it over to the Afghan military in July while American troops started exiting the country.
