LA Man Fatally Stabbed in Random Unprovoked Attack While on Phone

On Friday, detectives in LA are looking for information after an unprovoked stabbing incident occurred, resulting in the killing of a man while he was talking to his brother on FaceTime.

The police described the incident as “random and unprovoked.” It took place on April 8, when Sergio Santay, 34, was attacked while he was walking on Bonnie Brae Street.

Video footage obtained by the police shows Santay being attacked by a suspect who immediately fled the scene.

The victim was reportedly talking to his brother on FaceTime in broad daylight regarding his plan for the weekend when the unidentified suspect approached him and stabbed him in the neck, according to Fox 11.

The suspect was then seen heading to Wilshire Boulevard, where he encountered two other people sitting in an alleyway.

The Los Angeles Police Department published a press release on Friday, saying, “The suspect approached both individuals and attempted to stab them before fleeing the location.”

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to patrol officers’ calls and rushed Santay to a local hospital in Los Angeles.
“Santay failed to respond to medical aid and was pronounced dead at the hospital,” the LAPD’s statement said Friday.

At the moment, a manhunt for the suspect is ongoing, and California authorities have warned the public that he is likely armed and that people should consider him dangerous, according to a local news outlet.

According to the police, the suspect has been described as a male who was wearing a black fisherman hat with prints of marijuana leaves. He was also wearing a turquoise-colored t-shier, light-colored shorts, and dark shoes.
