A Las Vegas mother is speaking out following an incident in which a substitute teacher allegedly taped a mask onto a fourth-grade student’s face at school.

While being interviewed by KVVU-TV, the unidentified mom revealed that she was “furious” after finding out that her 9-year-old son, who was studying at Reedom Elementary School, has a mask attached to his face with tape.

Apart from being furious, she said she felt scared for her child regarding how the incident may affect him socially as the entire class reportedly laughed at him.

The mom revealed that her son had gone to get a sip of water and when he came back, forgot to put his mask back on. She then alleged that the teacher did not instruct him to put it back on nor send him to the office. Instead, the substitute teacher allegedly pulled him towards the front of the class, in front of all his classmates, and taped the mask onto his face.

According to the report, the boy had a second layer of tape running from his nose to his forehead. A school worker noticed this when the boy picked up homework that his father dropped off at the office.

“She saw another student who she thought was my son with tape on their face as well,” the mom added.

The student said that five others had their masks stuck on their faces using tape, and that this has allegedly started at the beginning of the school year.
Per the school district, the sub’s action was an “isolated” case.
In a statement, the district said it “is aware of the isolated incident and is dealing with the employee through the proper channels. The principal proactively notified the family of the investigation.”
