LEGO Launches Line of Braille Brick Tool Kits

Toy giant LEGO is launching a line of braille brick tool kits for blind users.

“The LEGO® Braille Bricks concept is a play-based methodology that teaches braille to children who are blind or have a visual impairment,” said the LEGO Braille Bricks website.

According to Fox Business, LEGO is partnering with the American Printing House for the Blind to distribute the bricks with studs that correspond with numbers and letters in the braille.

“Each brick in the LEGO® Braille Bricks toolkit retains its iconic form,” the website reads. “But unlike a regular LEGO® brick, the studs are arranged to correspond to numbers and letters in the Braille alphabet.”

“Each brick shows the printed version of the symbol or letter, allowing sighted and blind children to play and learn together on equal terms. This ingenious combination of features opens up a whole new world of playful learning that teaches children Braille in an enjoyable and tactile environment,” it then added.

LEGO has offered the Braille Bricks to school districts for free. Also, the bricks have a design with educational instruction led by a teacher in mind.

Fox Business reported that LEGO designed the bricks to inspire visually impaired kids. “It allows them to develop a variety of life skills, ensuring they experience intellectual freedom, independence and equal access to education and work,” the group also said.
