Migrant Bus Dispatched By Abbott

Earlier, Texas governor Greg Abbott dispatched the migrant bus as part of a Republican migrant strategy. The party opposes the Biden government’s move to rescind a Trump-era border policy.

Title 42 prevents undocumented migrants from entering the US on fears of COVID infection.

In a statement Wednesday, Abbott explained why they dispatched the migrant bus. He said this helps bring the migrants closer to the group that allowed them to enter the US in the first place.

“The Biden Administration will be able to more immediately meet the needs of the people they are allowing to cross our border,” Abbott said. The Texas governor also added that another busload is on the way.

Response to Biden Administration Ending Title 42

Title 42 is a policy introduced during the term of former President Donald Trump. He instituted the health policy in the spring of 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID.

Border officials will turn away migrants crossing the border for health and safety reasons. At the time, little was known about COVID and its impact.

Earlier this month, however, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that the Biden administration will terminate TItle 42.

The migrant bus dropped off aliens from Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua between Union Station and the Capitol.

According to Abbott's office, this is part of his “response to the Biden Administration’s decision to end Title 42 expulsions”.

The health order prevented more than 1.7 million attempts by immigrants to cross the border during the pandemic. DHS officials are warning of another potential surge of 170,000 migrants once Title 42 ceases.

Abbot Said Texas Shouldn’t Bear The Burden of Biden’s Immigration Policies

In justifying his deployment of a migrant bus to transfer undocumented aliens to Washington DC, Abbott said it’s for Texas. The governor said that Texas shouldn’t “bear the burden” of the Biden administration’s failure to secure the border.

Abbott, who is running for reelection this November, earlier directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses. These vehicles will pick up migrants from the border towns and transport them to Washington DC.

What do you think about Abbott’s decision to transport migrants to Washington DC? Will this help the cause of Texas in managing the border? Or, will this be just another PR stunt that doesn’t really solve the problem?
