WATCH: Morocco’s Female Landowners Warmly Welcomes Ivanka Trump
Ivanka Trump, President Donald Trump’s daughter and senior White House adviser, received a warm welcome from housewives, widows, and other women benefiting from new laws when she visited Morocco for the first time. She visited Morocco to promote the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative, a program defined by Associated Press as “a U.S. government program she spearheads that has a goal of helping 50 million women in developing countries advance economically by 2025.” Its focus is to assist women in developing job skills and succeeding as entrepreneurs, changing cultures and laws in the process.
Ivanka Trump works on women’s issues and “has sought through an initiative to encourage developing countries to help women build wealth and financial independence by owning land or other property.” Morocco, on the other hand, is working in partnership with the Millennium Challenge Corp. and has updated its land titling laws.
Women in Morocco previously could not inherit or buy land, but during her visit, Ivanka Trump met four women who had done so. Ivanka Trump later went to a ceremony as participants banged drums and blew horns, showing their approval. Women in the venue also expressed such.
