Mr. Trump Goes To Mexico

Donald Trump flew to Mexico for a quick day trip and meeting with the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto before flying to Phoenix for a much-anticipated speech on immigration.

Donald Trump started his speech slow, reciting it calmly and carefully. He called President Peña Nieto a friend and reached out to the citizens of Mexico and Mexican Americans in the United States, calling them “spectacular, hard-working people,” and “beyond reproach.”

However, it was not all compliments for the Mexican president. Trump called out Mexico for profiting from NAFTA more than the United States. This is a point that is near and dear to his supporters who are suffering from these trade deals that hurt the American worker by sending jobs overseas and across the border.

Donald Trump also laid out a plan for the two countries to work together on. “Prosperity and happiness will in both our countries increase if we work together on the following five shared goals.”

The five goals are as follows

  1. Ending illegal immigration. Not just into the United States, but into Mexico as well.
  2. Having a secure border is a sovereign right and mutually beneficial. All countries have a right to build a wall to stop drugs, violence, and illegal immigration.
  3. Dismantling drug cartels and ending the movement of illegal drugs, guns, and money across our border.
  4. Improving NAFTA
  5. Keep Manufacturer wealth in our hemisphere. When jobs go overseas it increases poverty and immigration.

Say what you will about Donald Trump, but he was on message with this trip to Mexico. He has said that he will fight for the American working class and by all evidence, he did so.

One interesting point that President Peña Nieto brought up, was their own southern border and the immigration problem that they also face. After all, the majority of immigrants crossing into the United States from Mexico are not Mexican.

Donald Trump acknowledged this and spoke about the need for both countries to toughen their borders. Although the question of who will pay for the wall did come up in questions, Trump said that they did not speak about it. However, while President Peña Nieto didn't disagree with Trump publicly, he did oppose Trump on Twitter after the speech, saying, “At the beginning of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall.”

Donald Trump's trip to Mexico went great. It was proof that he is not the snarling racist monster that the left has painted him as. It also showed that he is very capable of being a world leader and a diplomat.

Unfortunately, it was largely overshadowed by his speech later that night in Phoenix.
